I am Tirza Calderon, a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I am currently majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Global Health and Environmental Studies and a minor in Hispanic Studies.

With my father being from and my extended family living in El Salvador, I have had the opportunity to travel to Central America many times throughout my life. Being exposed to and living among these experiences has fueled my passion to work towards improving the health of these underserved populations. I have great interest in learning about cultures from around the world, understanding the trials and tribulations that people experience in the sphere of public health and working towards diminishing health disparities.

In the future, I hope to obtain my Masters of Public Health and work for a governmental or non-governmental organization that works to improve the health of underserved populations throughout the world. Although I am interested in pursuing a career in the field of public health, I have also learned the importance of obtaining basic business skills to achieve success in any field. For this reason, I am extremely excited to complete the Business Essentials program and serve as a Student Ambassador.
