Only scratched the surface
I have only completed the first two modules of the UNC Business Essentials Program but I already feel like I have gained a lot. At first there seemed to be a lot of reading that I was going to have to do, which can be tedious on a computer screen but everything is broken down in such a nice way that the information flows together very well. Even though there was a lot of information, I did not feel overwhelmed like I do reading some of my text books. The pictures, diagrams and alternative teaching strategies really help the information to stick. One of the other features that I like are the quizzes. You are allowed to take the quizzes Read More
Reaping the Rewards…
I applied to take the UBE certificate because I wanted the tools to translate the skills that I am learning and developing as a liberal arts, (specifically Philosophy and Economics), student into the ‘real world’. Since I am planning on working somewhere in the business sphere when I graduate, it made sense to develop business acumen through formal study of key business principles as well as gaining practical experience through internships. My desire to formalize my understanding of these key business principles was strengthened after a stint working for The South African Environment and Education Project, which led me to the realization that knowledge of business principles would reduce the learning curve on new jobs in new fields and also Read More
Exceeded my expectations
Having now completed the first two modules of the business essentials program, I must say that the content has exceeded my expectations. These are not lessons that you can skim through and toggle windows for the final exam, as much of my past online-learning experience has demonstrated. The curriculum has been designed in such a way that engages you deeply with the material – even financial accounting, which I would have said was not possible. I would recommend dedicating a journal to the purpose of note-taking, and setting aside time each day to work through the units. It is possible to complete a module in a single day; however, it requires at least six hours of uninterrupted time and more Read More
Business Essentials – my initial reaction
I am extremely excited to have completed the first two modules of the UNC Business Essentials Program. The first module of the program served as a general introduction to business and the second module of the program was entitled “Financial Accounting.” My initial reaction of these first two modules was that the activities, quizzes, and final exam were much more difficult than I expected. However, this level of rigor made me appreciate the program even more. There was an abundance of detailed information included in each of these modules. I did not feel that I was receiving a basic overview of business skills, but a true education on many aspects in the field of business. I found it extremely beneficial Read More
Business Essentials program design & content
After completing several modules of the UNC Business Essentials program, I would like to share my opinions of the program’s design and content from an undergraduate student’s point of view. Overall, I continue to remain impressed with what the program has taught me and would encourage others to see what they can learn from the program. Design The prime feature that I value about the program software, Aglix’s GoCourse Player, is user friendliness. I did not have to waste my time figuring out how to navigate through the program. The layout of each module is very self-explanatory, and the procedure to post to a discussion board or view my grades is not at all difficult. The variety of teaching methods Read More
