The Business Essentials program means business

Going into the Business Essentials program for the first time, I was under the impression I could sit down at my favorite Starbucks table and crank out a few units with ease. However, after completing the first two units I realize that the UBE program means business, which it very well should. As UBE students we are getting every bang for our buck. Sometimes your major doesn’t reflect your life-plan

The UNC Business Essentials program is a perfect fit for students like me: a strong interest in business, but too many interests in other things to be limited by a business major at a liberal arts school like Carolina.  I spent the past two summers working at firms which have developed my business savvy and taught me real-world business skills that will carry me into my future. And in this economy and job market, every little bit of knowledge counts. Students nowadays are looking for ways to set themselves apart. We are all constantly striving to find ways to stand out; whether it is through community service, leadership, clubs or internships. But the UNC Business Essentials program offers something completely different: Read More

Succeeding in the real world

As a junior history and peace, war, and defense major who is beginning to realize the risks of diving straight into law school (or any other grad program for that matter), I spent the beginning of my Fall Semester frantically trying to add another major or minor that would provide me with some degree of marketable skills. I feel that many liberal arts upperclassmen have found or will find themselves in a similar situation. While my majors have taught me to think critically and have stressed reading comprehension and writing, I feel as though I stand at a disadvantage in initially obtaining a job after graduation due to my lack of a business related background. Thankfully, I found out about Read More
