UBE at Spring Expo

May 4, 2010 By Erica Pressley

This week, with UNC Business Essentials I worked the Spring Expo hosted by University Career Services.  I arrived around 12:40PM in order to set up the table for promotion.  I only had a few t-shirts and highlighters so I was worried the table looked pretty meager when finally Jay came to my rescue with a tablecloth, some extra fliers, and some more handouts.  After printing out a sign-up sheet and setting up the PowerPoint presentation to play while I stood at the table, I was ready to promote Business Essentials.

The Spring Expo is the last big opportunity presented by UCS to bring students and employers together.  There were companies such as Wells Fargo, Hershey’s, Mattress Firm, Nieman Marcus, and many more.  At first, people were hesitant to visit our table.  I found it funny that some people came up to our table thinking that it was a company hiring students rather than a business education program.  A lot of students did not realize that the program was actually created for undergraduates and recent graduates.

Most of the people attending the Expo were seniors hoping to secure jobs for next year, most of the ones I spoke to being Liberal Arts majors.  By the time I left at 3:30, we had around ten names, and I anticipate that Russell and Mykia were able to secure a few more.  At least if students did not approach our table, they saw our logo and getting our name out there is what is important at this stage of UBE.
