Greetings from Café Literario in Santiago, Chile! Yesterday, I finished my classes at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. I am here in Santiago on an MBA exchange through UNC Kenan-Flagler’s exceptional MBA Global Programs office. I have had a great experience, but the fun is only just beginning (more on that later). Yes, I am already finished with my classes, and it is only late January. Because it is summer down here in the Southern Hemisphere (nice, right?!), my classmates and I were enrolled in intensive “Summer Session” classes, which met for longer hours during each day for a shorter number of days. I completed two courses: Global Competition & Sustainable Energy and The Art & Science of Negotiations. My Read More

Life as a 2nd Year
Life is pretty good as a 2nd Year student at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Like my 2nd Year classmates, I completed the core curriculum last year, so I am able to enroll entirely in elective courses that I am most interested in this year. I was fortunate enough to receive a full-time job offer at the completion of my summer internship, so I am worry-free regarding my work life post-MBA. I interned this past summer with Bank of America in New York in the bank’s Global Human Resources Development Program, and I recently accepted the full-time offer to join the two-year rotational Global Human Resources Development Program in Charlotte, North Carolina. Practicing leadership in real-world scenarios
In my first post for the Kenan-Flagler Blog, I discussed the Leadership Initiative and Leadership Day. On Friday, February 5th, I completed 4 points towards the 12 points required for the MBA Leadership Scorecard, by participating in The Game of Leadership, a series of interactive leadership role playing scenarios. The “simulation” is limited to 21 first-year students per session and is facilitated by Professor Lynn Setzer. During the session from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM (with lunch provided!), my classmates and I practiced our leading and managing skills by responding to real-world business situations. Each of us took on personas of executives at a privately held software shop that develops, manufactures, and sells financial accounting software to Fortune 500 companies. Read More
Inside UNC Kenan-Flagler's Leadership Day
Throughout the first year of the MBA Program, my classmates and I get a chance to participate in leadership activities and receive academic credit as a result. A total of 12 points are required for academic credit and can be attained from a large menu of activities offered through Kenan-Flagler’s Leadership Initiative. The first points towards the Leadership credit are gained during First Year Orientation by completing the Pre-MBA Assessment and Workshop. Regular classes were canceled on Friday, November 6th so that First Year MBAs could participate in Leadership Day. The morning kicked-off with “Lessons of Experience” talks from successful Kenan-Flagler alums. The speakers included Fred McCoy, Vice Chairman, Synecor and former President, Guidant Cardiac Rhythm Management; Keith Pigues, SVP Read More
