Golf is an essential part of the Kenan-Flagler experience – especially if you can golf and raise money for the official cause of Kenan-Flagler Business School: Habitat of Humanity of Orange County. I’ve been trying my hand at the sport for the last two years and look forward to our Carolina spring and more chances to play. I’m especially looking forward to this April.
Every year in April, the Habitat Club at Kenan-Flagler hosts the Habitat for Humanity Golf Classic to raise funds for “The House that Kenan-Flagler Built” – a local Habitat home built using over 1000 student volunteer hours and $50,000 in fundraising. In the past two years, I’ve had fun volunteering to build our homes in the heat and the rain and the snow – but I’ve had even more fun during our two flagship fundraising events. In the fall, we host Casino Night, a black tie evening of gaming, gambling, and dancing and in the spring, we host the Golf Classic, an afternoon of golfing, eating, and alumni and professional networking.
Last year, students, alumni, and local businesspeople all enjoyed the fun and festive event sponsored by Wells Fargo with assistance from Bank of America, Wood Partners, Morgan Creek Capital and BDO. We kicked off with a shotgun start at noon with boxed lunches and beverages of choice delivered on the course. The full field of golfers enjoyed a wonderful sunny afternoon golf scramble and came in to a heavy hors d’oeuvres spread from Med Deli and prizes to tournament winners. Everyone took home goodie bags sponsored by BrandFuel, and most happily claimed a silent auction win or two as well. I’m still disappointed to have gotten outbid on Fink’s Jewelry’s David Yurman bracelet – but am happy to have snagged a gift certificate to Chapel Hill Restaurant Group.
I’m excited to announce that this year marks our 20th Annual Habitat for Humanity Golf Classic. This spring we’ll be hosting the event on Friday, April 13th at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Course, a Davis Love III designed course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. If you want to come out and play or if you or your company is interested in sponsoring the event please visit our website.
