Earlier this month 685 students graduated from Kenan-Flagler’s undergraduate business, MAC and MBA programs, and all were asked to make a gift to the business school before becoming official Kenan-Flagler alumni. We are pleased to report that 362 students contributed to their respective class campaigns and gave a total of $28,936 in cash to UNC Kenan-Flagler—$7,000 more than the Classes of 2011. Forty-nine percent of the BSBA class contributed $4,478 to UNC. Of that total, 25 percent directed a total of $2,072 to Kenan-Flagler. Living the Atlanta Dream
Congratulations to Kenan-Flagler alumnus Pete Canalichio (MBA ’90), who was appointed CEO of the Atlanta Dream in January 2012. The Atlanta Dream is part of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the world’s longest-running women’s professional sports league. Canalichio is also the founder of Licensing Brands, Inc. and previously held leadership roles at Newell Rubbermaid, Tula Communications and Coca-Cola, specializing in branding and sports marketing across the Olympics, MLB, NHL, NASCAR and the FIFA World Cup. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was also an award-winning Naval aviator and instructor pilot. West Coast Events
In support of the school’s West Coast Initiative, the UNC Kenan-Flagler Alumni Relations held alumni receptions with Dean Jim Dean in the Los Angeles/Orange County Area on April 17 and in the San Francisco/Bay Area on April 19. UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni Rolf (MBA ‘87) and Ronda (BSBA ‘87) Hoffmann hosted our reception in the LA area at Calabasas Country Club. Alumnus Robert Pringle (BSBA ‘66) hosted our reception in San Francisco at the offices of Winston & Strawn, LLP. More than 120 alumni, guests and students attended these events. At both receptions, Dean Jim Dean provided an update on key UNC Kenan-Flagler initiatives and answered questions. Corporate and Foundation Relations
This month UNC Kenan-Flagler welcomes a new executive director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Stacy Zearing. In this role, Zearing is responsible for managing Kenan-Flagler’s corporate and foundation fundraising programs. He will coordinate philanthropic solicitation strategies with key corporations and foundations by matching corporate interest areas with academic priorities. In addition, he will identify, research, develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective corporate partners and manage their participation in the school’s various programs and activities. Zearing brings a variety of experience to his new role. Before joining Kenan-Flagler, he was director of Development and External Affairs at Indiana University, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and a certificate in Executive Nonprofit Leadership.
