Ph.D. Student John Gallemore Honored

We are pleased to announce that John D. Gallemore, a doctoral candidate in accounting, received a $25,000 grant in February from the Deloitte Foundation’s annual Doctoral Fellowships in Accounting program. Gallemore is one of 10 Ph.D. candidates chosen.   Given to top accounting doctoral students who will be pursuing academic careers upon graduation, the award supports the 2012 recipients’ final year of coursework and the subsequent year to complete their doctoral dissertation. “Since all of the grantees pursue careers in academia, the program plays a crucial role in ensuring there is a pipeline of highly-skilled, qualified accounting faculty on campuses to educate our profession’s next generation of talent and leaders,” said Shaun Budnik, president of the Deloitte Foundation. Celebrating Donors and Scholars

On Tuesday March 20, UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Office of Advancement hosted the second annual Donors and Scholars Celebration, an event where our fellowship and scholarship donors have the opportunity to meet their student recipients.  Nearly 150 people attended the celebration, including donors, faculty, staff and more than 100 student scholarship and fellowship recipients. This is a 50 percent increase in participation over last year’s event. Following a reception and dinner, the evening featured a brief program with welcoming remarks from UNC Kenan-Flagler Dean James Dean and donor remarks from Coleman D. Ross (BSBA ’65), retired partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Master of Accounting fellowship donor. Ross, who has continued to mentor his past fellowship recipients over the years, delivered a heartfelt message Read More

In the seven years that Kenan-Flagler has held the competition here at UNC, our team has now won twice. His timely research on short selling has been featured in a variety of publications including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Most recently Reed collaborated with UNC Kenan-Flagler Ph.D. student William Waller and Charles Jones of Columbia Business School on a paper focusing on new regulation in the United Kingdom, France and Spain that requires short sellers to disclose their identities. “Some worry that disclosures of short selling could be a coordination device among short sellers, with a disclosure inducing other short sellers to jump in as well,” explains Reed. “However, there is mixed Read More
