Building a Bridge to the Future
Deloitte is taking its commitment to UNC faculty and students to the next level. Not only is UNC a strategic school within the organization’s University Relations program, but Deloitte is also supporting Kenan-Flagler’s installation of Cisco TelePresence™ with a $500,000 alumni giving campaign.
Strengthening connections
As a strategic school within Deloitte’s University Relations program, Deloitte will team with UNC on a coordinated approach to meet the university’s strategic priorities.
“While we’ve always been strongly engaged with the UNC community, this more formalized approach will help us build an even tighter connection by leveraging our resources in the best possible way to serve UNC and its students,” said Nathan Andrews (BSBA ‘92 & MAC ’93), Deloitte’s lead university partner for UNC.
Andrews serves as Deloitte’s central point of contact for UNC and will be working closely with Andy Hines (MBA ’72), UNC Kenan-Flagler’s director of corporate and foundation relations, who serves in a similar capacity for the business school.
“This collaboration is a logical step for both organizations,” said Hines, pointing out that UNC Kenan-Flagler currently has more than 320 alumni employed at Deloitte, with a significant number in senior roles. “Deloitte is already extensively involved on campus. Our focus is to work together to produce even better results on our part and on theirs.”
Deloitte currently recruits for positions in all areas from UNC, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition, Deloitte also sponsors many other events and conferences on campus, including the Global Issues in Accounting conference, the UNC Women in Business Conference and the Undergraduate Business Symposium.
TelePresence™
In addition to developing an overall engagement strategy for Deloitte and UNC across multiple program areas, Deloitte also developed a fundraising campaign through the Deloitte Foundation to support Kenan Flagler’s installation of TelePresence™, which provides users with a virtual presence in connected locations by providing the latest in videoconferencing technology.
Kenan-Flagler is one of the first business schools to adopt this new type of information delivery, which was developed by Cisco Systems.
“TelePresence greatly enhances the school’s team-based curriculum by providing expanded collaboration between student teams, faculty and other universities, enabling Kenan-Flagler to more quickly connect our community to the world,” says James W. Dean Jr., the school’s dean. “Deloitte’s help is critical in bringing this strategic technology to our campus.”
On a more personal level, says Andrews, “I give to Kenan-Flagler and UNC because of the significant impact the university has on my life. Both personally and professionally, I feel a strong connection and debt of gratitude to UNC. I studied at UNC. I met my wife at UNC. We play with our children on campus. Deloitte interviewed me at Kenan-Flagler, and now I join many other UNC alumni from Deloitte to support and recruit the outstanding students at Kenan-Flagler and UNC. The list goes on. Making a contribution becomes quite easy with the perspective of the important role UNC plays in each of our lives.”
