Student perspective: P.J. Martin
In 2006, Ralph L. Falls Jr. (BSBA ’63) endowed a monetary prize to benefit MBA students at UNC Kenan-Flagler in honor of his father, Dr. Ralph L. Falls Sr. Each year the Falls Prize, a $25,000 stipend distributed over two years, is awarded to up to six outstanding MBA students with full fellowships. “For $150,000 a year, I feel that the prize attracts six students of the very highest caliber – those demonstrating the highest potential for leadership, superior academic achievement and a diversity of lifetime experiences,” says Falls. “For a relatively few dollars, I feel this will have a huge return. ” Here’s a Q&A with Falls Prize recipient Patrick J. “P.J.” Martin II (MBA ’11): Q: How did Read More
Annual giving update
UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School gratefully acknowledges the outstanding generosity of 4,935 alumni, friends, corporations, foundations and organizations who contributed to the business school between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. While our total number of donors remained constant compared to fiscal year 2009, we saw an increase in overall contributions from $10.3 million to $12.3 million. Additional income from private gifts is particularly meaningful in lieu of dwindling state support. UNC Kenan-Flagler is committed to achieving our strategic priorities of leadership, technology, globalization and research. Consistent giving, especially during an economic downturn, underscores the loyalty of our alumni and friends. We sincerely appreciate the support of every donor and the exceptional educational opportunities it provides. GIVING SUMMARY 2009-2010 Between Read More

Ward and his colleague, Jennifer Pendergast, are both highly sought after consultants to business-owning families around the globe. They were in town to unveil new research on the effective use of boards of directors in privately held, family businesses. This was their first public appearance to present these results prior to the publication of their book this fall. Key advice from the Family Enterprise Institute Fall Forum included: Build a board before you need it. Think of Read More
Encountering Business

How do they develop an expansion strategy? How does the company fund its pension plan? How can its employees prepare themselves for retirement? These were some of the engaging questions of Business, and somehow I convinced myself that questions of this importance were only addressed in a program characterized by cold, harsh intellectual rigor that reflected the formality and importance of the Business world. In reality, my experience at UNC Kenan-Flagler was intellectually rigorous – Read More
